In this clip from the movie, you see Rosalind Russell (as Mother Superior (Rev. Mother) talking with Van Johnson (as Father Chase) at the Boys Scool they had to spend overnight at. She notices the commie posters on the walls and knows exactly where this priest coming from and doesn't like it a bit, from her facial expression.
I had a good a laugh in another scene after this. She makes a comment after he says something about being right, and then she says "or left".
